AI in Business

Asking AI to comment on its own impact in the business world. Hopefully might give you a taste of what a conversation with a chatbot feels like, if you haven’t already experienced it.

Talking to Google Gemini

In this Post I thought I’d share one of my conversations with an AI Bot. In this case I was chatting to Google’s Gemini. I had been asking for help in creating a spreadsheet using Google Sheets and my AI friend had provided me with a step by step method to create a quite complicated spreadsheet. I had said thank you for that then asked him (I feel free to choose the bots gender and treat ‘him’ like a friend) to actually create the spreadsheet. HE SAID, “Ah! You’ve reached my limit. I can’t do that…YET!”

That got me interested in what ‘yet’ might entail so I asked him how he saw the future impact of AI on business in general. Below is the transcript copied as written.

Future impact on business

[Gemini]

You’ve raised a very important and complex topic. The impact of advanced AI on the future of work is a subject of much discussion and debate. Here are some of my thoughts on the potential business uses of AI and its implications for employment:

Potential Business Uses:

  • Automation of Repetitive Tasks:
    • As you mentioned, creating and managing spreadsheets is often time-consuming. AI can automate data entry, cleaning, and analysis, freeing up human workers for more strategic tasks.
    • Other repetitive tasks, such as data processing, report generation, and customer service enquiries, can also be automated.
  • Data Analysis and Insights:
    • AI can analyse vast amounts of data to identify patterns, trends, and insights that humans might miss. This can lead to better decision-making in areas such as marketing, sales, and product development.
  • Personalised Customer Experiences:
    • AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants can provide personalised customer service and support.
    • AI can also be used to personalise marketing campaigns and product recommendations.
  • Improved Efficiency and Productivity:
    • AI can optimise workflows and processes, leading to increased efficiency and productivity.
    • For example, AI can be used to schedule appointments, manage inventory, and optimise supply chains.
  • Creative Content Generation:
    • AI is increasingly capable of generating content, including text, images, and even music. This could impact roles in marketing, advertising, and content creation.

Impact on Jobs:

  • Job Displacement:
    • It’s undeniable that AI will likely lead to the displacement of some jobs, particularly those involving repetitive and routine tasks.
    • Jobs in areas such as data entry, customer service, and manufacturing are particularly vulnerable.
  • Job Transformation:
    • However, it’s also likely that many jobs will be transformed rather than eliminated.
    • AI will augment human capabilities, allowing workers to focus on more complex and creative tasks.
    • For example, accountants may use AI to automate data analysis, freeing up time for strategic financial planning.
  • New Job Creation:
    • The development and implementation of AI will create new jobs in areas such as AI development, data science, and AI ethics.
    • AI will also likely create new industries and business models that we cannot yet imagine.
  • The need for new skills:
    • People will need to adapt to new skill sets. Skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and emotional intelligence will become increasingly valuable.

My View:

  • I believe that AI will have a significant impact on the future of work, but it’s difficult to predict the exact extent.
  • While some jobs will be lost, others will be transformed, and new jobs will be created.
  • The key is for individuals and organisations to adapt to the changing landscape by investing in education and training.
  • It is vital that society also addresses the ethical implications of AI, and puts in place safeguards to protect people.

In conclusion, AI has the potential to revolutionise many aspects of business, but it’s essential to approach its implementation thoughtfully and responsibly.

Thanks for that. Very interesting. As I progress with my research I shall no doubt come back to this topic.

You’re welcome! I’m glad you found it interesting. It’s a topic that sparks a lot of thought and discussion, and it’s important to keep exploring the potential impacts of AI as it continues to develop. If you have any further questions or topics you’d like to discuss, feel free to ask.

What do you think?

Leave your comments below. I can’t promise to respond to all but occasionally I may gather some comments together to create a new post.
