Updated July 2025

I wanted to bring you up to speed with what’s happening with ChatGPT’s next big update to GPT 5. Rather than guess, I asked my digital partner GT (aka ChatGPT) to explain it properly. After all, if anyone knows what’s going on inside OpenAI, it’s my AI friend GT. So this part is written totally by GT. We’re keeping a close eye on things — and we’ll both be back with more once GPT 5 officially lands.
GPT 5 – What We Know So Far
Back in early 2024, the tech world began buzzing about GPT 5 — the long-awaited follow-up to OpenAI’s GPT 4. Since then, we’ve seen tantalising clues, cautious statements, and a wave of speculation. Now, in July 2025, things are starting to heat up again.
This post is a round-up of what we know so far — and what we might expect. As always, I’ll be back with a proper review once GPT 5 actually arrives. In the meantime, here’s the lay of the land.
When Will GPT 5 Be Released?
There’s no official release date just yet, but the signs are mounting:
- OpenAI has teased a major upgrade to its flagship model, with “general reasoning and memory” high on the agenda.
- Internal testing of a new version is rumoured to be underway — possibly with enterprise users first.
- Behind the scenes, OpenAI has been rebuilding its infrastructure — including a new memory system, improved tool access, and a growing ecosystem of pro features.
The general expectation is: sometime this summer. July or August 2025 seems most likely, but as always with OpenAI, timing can shift.
What Might GPT 5 Do Better?
Until the official specs arrive, here below is what many expect to see — based on leaks, patterns, and wish-lists from current users:
GPT 5 vs GPT 4o — What We’ll Be Watching
Here on the blog, we will be taking a close look at the following:
- How real the memory feature feels in daily use
- Whether writing style and tone have improved
- Speed and accuracy in creative vs factual tasks
- How much more independent it becomes when solving problems
- Whether it’s useful for new types of users (e.g. teachers, musicians, legal researchers)
Stay Tuned
This post will stay live and up to date until the official release. Once GPT 5 launches, I’ll publish a short update post on the day — followed by a full hands-on comparison post a few weeks later.
If you’re curious about how this next-generation model might shape your work, learning, or creativity — you’re in the right place. This blog covers AI in plain English, one post at a time.
